Sponsorship the highs and all the lows.

Motorsport takes money and car racing for me is a step up in costs as we don’t maintain the kit and transport it as we used too in Karts.

So we need sponsorship, before for me that has meant talking to people at the track and explaining what we are doing and thanking them etc. Now in cars that’s all changed. I am helping my dad find prospects, contacting them and having teams calls and phone calls myself.

One of my first solo cars was actually with a magazine editor, which was okay, but a lot shorter than I wanted. As the call ended I felt a bit disheartened and down, as really we did not achieve anything.

I did some emails with other prospects, getting some nice feedback even if it was no, then we had a company say yes, please talk to us more. I was so excited, years back I thought we had a big sponsor coming and dad went to meet them in Belgium and it turned out to be a Bitcoin scam, I was devastated, so I tried not to get my hopes up, but its hard not too. The firm wanted a teams call and I prepared, I read up on their firm I did all my homework, I had notes made and points ready for me to get across. I even role played a few Q&A.

Dad had a nightmare and was on the road in a bad signal area, so I had to do so much of the call on my own. I did my best, but some parts I filled in for dad and maybe he is stronger at that stuff.

We left it positive and they really wanted to move forward and then it went quiet and despite a few emails eventually we got the email that said thank you but no.

I was not so upset, just a bit frustrated, as we have a really good package and I love talking and writing and creating content.  Its hard not to feel that its personal too, as its me the driver really, its not about anything else.

My mum and dad work so hard for me building everything, so it just fires me up to be the best I can be. I have learned so much from all these opportunities even if they have not come to anything. Each time I do one, my preparation is the same research and look at how I can add the value, How I can help them and give them something different. It’s a lot harder at times than racing, but the way I look at it, you have to keep pushing because that one time you will hook up all the sectors and get the purple Sponsor you need
