3 days for H to get to grips with some of the best drivers in the Senior X30 scene.
Running our Fullerton Chassis, which we have had minimal good dry running on, this was a challenge that the team were really looking forward to.
Friday practice and at first when we had to.use the new practice slicks, we went the wrong way on set up. But Dave and H worked it out. The data from our Starlaneuk dash proving it's worth.
By the end of the day, H set times that saw him just outside the top 10 fastest.
It was also brilliant to have Chris and Alex from Eighty Eight Digital Ltd along to support H.
Saturday was dry again, we tried a few new tweaks in simulated TQ, but they did not work.
TQ itself was messy and H found himself in 25th place.
H was keen to make amends in the first heat knowing that his wagon did have real pace.
However a start by H outside of the tramlines incured a instant time penalty and while the pace was good, H found it hard to make progress. The strength in depth in the grid meaning cutting through traffic was more of a challenge.
Heat 1 then 25th to 24th
Heat 2 then 25th to 22nd.
More of the same, some great battles, but again needing to attack earlier.
Sunday was finals day.
SuperHeat 23rd to 23rd.
A shocking start when the engine cut out, saw H well at the back on lap 1. However other on track incidents helped and H made some places, but the engine was just not quite right. H staying stuck in 24rd
Still very upbeat and determined, H started the final 23rd
Dave and Ash threw the kitchen sink at the kart, swapping engines, carb, plug, everything.
H was going to give it everything
A okay start was followed by a frantic 4 to 5 laps as H fought others to clear some karts. Moving up to 20th, H then broke free, running behind an old rival and Friend Spencer B. The two of them dropped the chasing pack, Spencer was quicker, by the odd tenth or two, as you would expect from the current senior Whilton champion. But slowly the two gained on the karts in front.
As the 15 minute race reached its climax, a couple of karts retired and after a driver penalty H finished 17th overall.
His fitness paying dividends as he was still setting green sectors right at the end of the race.
The level of driving was awesome and Fred Green a very worthy winner.
H learnt so much, we knew it would be tough, and so it proved, but we also got to see that H can compete. As an experience, this was fantastic and puts us in a good place for the British Championship.
A lot to work on, but a lot to be proud off too.
