Parts Washer
Many components on a race car become covered in dirt, grease, oil and brake dust over time. While this may seem unavoidable, I quickly realised after using a parts washer just how important it is to thoroughly clean components before inspecting, rebuilding or reassembling them.
Whether cleaning gearbox casings, individual gears, differential components or smaller mechanical parts, a parts washer provides a safe and effective way of removing years of built-up contamination. More importantly, it allows every component to be properly inspected before it is reused.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was that clean parts are essential for reliability. Dirt and old oil can easily hide cracks, excessive wear or other damage that could otherwise go unnoticed. Once a component has been cleaned, it becomes much easier to identify potential issues before they develop into expensive failures on track.
A parts washer also helps establish good workshop habits. Cleaning every component before reassembly ensures that only parts in good condition are returned to the car. This simple routine reduces the risk of overlooking damage and gives greater confidence that every component has been properly checked.
Keeping components clean is also important for long-term performance and durability. Dirt, grit and contaminated fluids can accelerate wear if they find their way into gearboxes, bearings or differentials during assembly. By removing these contaminants beforehand, you reduce the chance of premature wear and help components perform as they were designed.
Although a parts washer may seem like a simple piece of workshop equipment, it plays an important role in both maintenance and reliability. It not only makes components easier to work on, but also allows problems to be identified before they become failures, making it an invaluable tool in any motorsport workshop.
